Hi, I have a 2006 Jayco Jay feather Sport 186 with the amplified TV antenna which also includes a 12V socket it says for "12V TV only". The problem is this socket is to small to fit any standard 12V plug. Is there an adapter or something to use with this? Do 12V TV's have a smaller plug? Thanks

Try visiting your local RV, trailer supply, or maybe even an electronics outlet(take your TV cord with you)....there's a lot of Chinese junk plugs out there--even on decent tv's....get one that fits your TV outlet and change out the tv plug....or make up a short pigtail with the new plug and a new receptacle....RV shops should have all the parts....

Jayco and others use a standard 1/4 inch phone jack for 12volts. Is this what you're describing? I made an adapter using a female cigarette lighter plug wired to a male 1/4 inch jack (Radio Shack). Just be sure you maintain the correct polarity. On both types, positive is on the tip.

there are two styles of 12V outlets, a European version and American version, they are only slightly different and look the same… a lot of american cars have both in them, one for the lighter and the other for power outlets…

As I live in Canada, which is supposedly a 'metric' country, how come I can't find any of these plugs either?

What I have noticed though is that anything that draws more than a little juice seems to have a larger plug. Any 12 volt item that only draws a small amount seems to fit.

While you can't always trust Wikipedia below is some useful information.

Technical details

These sockets can be unreliable and the power connections they provide are limited to low current, but they are ubiquitous. Plugs often include a pilot light to indicate a connection has been made. The sockets and mating plugs are officially defined in the ANSI/SAE J563 specification.
For the 12-volt systems, the "contact point," which is the center part of the plug when viewed end-on, carries the positive voltage, whereas the "can" part, which is the outer part of the connector, carries the negative voltage (which is the "ground" connection for most American automobiles, which have a negative ground electrical system).

12 volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size A
Receptacle inside diameter: 20.93 mm to 21.01 mm (median 20.97 mm)
Plug body diameter: 20.73 mm to 20.88 mm (median 20.805 mm)
Most often used in American automobiles.

12 volt cigar lighter receptacle and plug, size B
Receptacle inside diameter: 21.41 mm to 21.51 mm (median 21.455 mm)
Plug body diameter: 21.13 mm to 21.33 mm (median 21.18 mm)
Most often used in European automobiles, and sometimes as a second socket in American automobiles expressly for DC power connections.
