Anyone know of any good family style campgrounds in So Cal or central Cal they canb recommend that maybe doesn't need a reservation 9 months in advance. The beach is too crowded and the desert too hot so we're looking for mid week adventure. Something laid back with grass, trees , a creek to catch frogs , basic family stuff like that. Thanks

We are looking for the same. All I find online are RV Resorts that look like big parking lots.

Search San Diego County Parks and Recreation. The County has a wide variety of really nicely ran campgrounds, clean and with full hookups. The maps are interactive, you can select availability, and you can view actual pics of the campsite. Gaujome and Lake Morena have lakes and ponds, lots of trees. Have fun!

SD County Parks and CampGrounds

Also fun if you have kids, Santee Lakes has a waterpark, kids fishing, swimming pools, and supervised activities, snack stands and 5 lakes! Full hookups including phone and cable tv.

This is the place. You feel like your in the boondocks, but you have golf, horseback riding, Raging Waters and Frank G. Bonelli park all within 5 minutes. You have tons of mountain bike trails, fishing yada, yada, yada...

Full hookups, cable TV and Wi-Fi.

I found that last night, it looks like its worth a try. One of the only places that looks not to be packed in like sardines. And only about an hour away.

Pudding Stone Resevoir/Dam, that's what it used to be called before the renevations were done and got turned into a park. It's a nice place now, of course it was a GREAT place when I was a kid and it was just water and dirt. It was a great place to spend the night and fish when you were a kid some 35 years ago.

It gets crowded when they have to boat races there. That's the only time I can remeber. Think they have swimming to. Haven't camped there yet. I don't know why. Maybe because there's just to much grass know.

I went to Vail Lake Resort last Thanksgiving, and it was pretty cool for family fun. It had a nice spaced out campground with a flat area for bike riding, hills for the kids to climb on (We stayed in the oaks section), rope swings, people were racing RC cars, mini golf, a summertime water park. It was pretty chill with full hook ups. Only negative was $75 a night, but it was worth it. Check it out.
