If your rig is small, try the Tolby campground, one of three in Cimarron Canyon SP. I got a site right by the stream last week, and the stream drowned out the noise of the nearby road.

We stayed at the Maverick campground in May 2006 and really enjoyed it. There are some sites that will accomodate larger rigs, but I also remember some of the loop roads having pretty tight turns. The water spigots were pretty spread out and there is no dump station at any of the campgrounds. Ponderosa Campground is pretty open and suitable for bigger rigs. Click on the brochure link at the bottom of the Park's website for maps of the campgrounds.

I remember seeing a couple of RV Parks in Red River. They are right along the river close to town. The valley is pretty narrow so everything is pretty packed in between the river, the road and the mountains. It is a very scenic area.

There are several RV Parks in Angel Fire and Eagles Nest which are described in the RV Parks Review website that was mentioned. There are also RV Parks in Taos and Questa.

There are a number of campgrounds in the Carson National Forest. A few are located on NM 38 between Questa and Red River.

There is also a BLM Recreation Area South of Taos on the Rio Grande that has campgrounds.

Safe travels!

Can't help you with any other than Roadrunner. Go to RV Park Reviews.com. and read the reviews. Nicest park in Red River but the comments on the owner and staff are all true. Whenever we go back to that area we will set up a base camp in Eagle Nest. Beautiful area of Alpine Meadows on a lake. 16mi. to Red River, 10mi. to Angel Fire and 25or so mi. to Taos. Cimarron SP looks nice but that was just what we could see from the Highway, didn't go in.
Cool off in the mountains and Enjoy.

Cimarron Canyon State Park is three miles east of Eagle Nest along US 64. Cimarron
It is a very scenic area, with a nice trout stream running along. We enjoyed our stay there, some years ago.

Eagle Nest is a neat area as well. Eagle Nest Lake is very pretty, but no camping by it as I remember. The drive from Eagle Nest (a neat little town) to Raton you would see Cimarron Canyon SP. You would be driving along or in the Cimarron Canyon much of the way. The village of Cimarron is a neat historic place. Village

If you do make it to the Eagle Nest Area, be sure to see the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, one of the first Memorials of its kind in the United States dedicated to Vietnam Veterans. A very moving place. It is in Angle Fire.

By driving 30 miles from Eagle Nest, one could go to Taos a very historic area. The neat Rio Grande Gorge Bridge is near Taos as well on the way to Chama. Taos

Carson National Forest - my only personal experience has been camping by Taos on the Hwy going to Eagle Nest such as La Sombra 8 miles east of Taos along US Highway 64 at 7,800 ft. elevation or Capulin & Las Petacas. One of these can serve as a base to visiting Taos. Find near Taos

No personal Photos, we were at these places PDC or Pre-Dital Camera.

I only did a drive by Red River from Taos to Eagle Nest once.
However, I see there are several Carson Nat'l Campgrounds near Red River, such as Fawn Lakes campground meanders up a hillside with several sites featuring stone terracing under a mixture of Ponderosa
pine, aspen, fir and spruce. It is convenient to State Rt. 38
and well situated for day trips on the Enchanted Circle and the
town of Red River. The Red River is across the road from
campground.

Also June Bug campground, elevation 8,500 ft. The campground stretches along the fast-flowing Red River withseveral waterfront sites. It is convenient to State Rt. 38 and well situated for day trips on the Enchanted Circle and the town of Red River. The sound of the Red River can be heard throughout the campground. Sites 9 through 12 are very rocky making it a challenge for tent campers to find a smooth spot. The campground is dominated by mature spruce with a mixture of cottonwoods, fir and conifers. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. Both sound neat, see more info at this link.
Campgrounds

Columbine Campground is near Questa on the road to Red River, take State Rt. 38 east 3.9 miles to campground. The elevation is 7,900 ft. The campground is composed of two loops. One very small loop has
all open sites and is nice for large gatherings. The other is a
large long loop among pine, spruce and some aspen that follows
Columbine Creek. The sound of the creek can be heard throughout
the campground. This is bear country; practice safe food storage
techniques.

Elephant Rock campground stretches out along the Red River with a lot of waterfront sites. It is convenient to State Rt. 38 and day trips
on the Enchanted Circle and the town of Red River. The sound of
the river can be heard throughout the campground. Ponderosa pine
dominates the campground with a mixture of fir and spruce. The
understory is grass and open which limits privacy between sites.
The nearby Fawn Lake (3 acres) offers fishing only. Sites 8
through 10 are tent only. This is bear country; practice safe
food protection techniques. It is west of Red River. Campgrounds

If you are looking for an RV Resort type campground, I can not help on those. I try to stay away from those. Only as a last resort, ha! This site has reviews of both kinds near Red River. Reviews
