I would buy the one with the gen installed. That means you don't have to take up valuable space with the portable one and you can sell the ones you have if you wanted to. Makes it nice to just hit a switch and open the slides with our built in generator. I like that if its raining and we loose power at the campgroung, I can just kick it on.

On a side note....if you decide to sell your Honda 2000, it shouldn't take long! I put my Honda eu3000is up on Craigslist and it sold in 15 minutes! Honda and Yamaha gens are high in demand!

As you can see, there are great arguments for both opinions.

I love my Honda twins and they are a lot less problem than the Onan I had on my last motorhome, but, as has been said, it's really nice to push a button and have the generator come on or go off.

An onboard does raise the value when you sell, but not nearly as much as they cost. You will also have to pay again when you buy your next rig.

If I did get an onboard, I, personally, would never get a propane powered generator. IMHO, propane is just too hard to find and and a PITA to deal with.

I guess my advice would be to ask what the convienience of an onboard is worth to you? I believe the onboard is more expensive to buy, maintain and you will take a beating on it whan you trade rigs, but it sure is convienient!!!

When my grown kids were inspecting our new fifth wheel, one asked why we bought a trailer that sleeps 4. My reply was that we couldn't find one that sleeps 2!

As far as price goes, I have been checking those out myself. If it is a unit that is sitting on a lot (you are not ordering it), I think that is a pretty good deal, even better if you are ordering it. I think it is possible to shave a little bit off that though, it just depends how much you want to hassle around. But, if it has everything you like, and you like the dealer, that sounds to be about right.

Good Luck

Another vote for the built in unit. Will never again do a trailer of any kind without one.

I have an Onan 5000 that was installed when I bought the trailer. If I had to do it again, I would spend the money on solar power and batteries, then use a portable to charge when necessary (and provide aircon the few times I need it when I am not plugged into a park).
