Just got back from Lakewood. It was awesome. The lifeguard said that dogs are allowed on the beach before 9am and after 4pm.

we were at Pirateland 6-22thru6-30 and we were very satified with it. we were about 3 rows back
from the pool area in the shaded sites and across
from the bath house . we spent most of our stay at the CG where we played in the pool/lazyriver
rode bikes and played at the beach.
Yes there were a lot of golf carts around , but just like anywhere else you have to watch out for yourself. The sites were small , but that gives you a chance to fellowship with your neighbors.
Overall we will probably go back again unless
we can get reservations to try one of the others.

Hi efko2:
Sorry to hear of your vacation woes. We went to Pirateland and had a GREAT time. The only thing I could suggest would be to go at a less busy time. We went during the April vacation, it was crowded but not fully packed, there were plenty of golf carts to pick from and the weather was nice in the low to mid 80's. Check-in was fast and smooth, less than 10 minutes. Everyone was pleasant, restrooms were clean. I imagine in the summer when there are 1500 sites that are full, its gonna be more of a zoo-like atmosphere.
I don't think you would run into those problems again. It seems they have a shortage of golf carts during the peak time.

We were there two weeks ago and it was wonderful. The campground was clean and the staff was so nice. The facilities are great and there are tons of activities for the kids. The beach was huge and very accessible from the campground. From anywhere in the campground you can walk to the beach in minutes. We rented a golf cart for the week because it made hauling the chairs, boogie boards and umbrellas to the beach easy. The pool area was terrific and they have what’s called the lazy river, which was my wife and my personal favorite. It’s a family oriented campground and children are everywhere. So if that’s not your thing then you might want to look at ocean lakes campground next to pirate land. Also if you don’t want to bake, I would suggest you pick a site somewhere in the middle of the campground. If you look at the map on their web site the blue shaded sites are all shaded by trees. It was hot the week we were there and the shade was a welcome relief. It was our first visit to Myrtle Beach and we’ve already talked about a return trip.
