Has anyone camped at Pirateland? Going there in a couple weeks and looking for some feedback.

Me too, Todd.

Made reservations in February and got a pull thru almost on the beach in Mid-July. Too late to worry about it now though. Tried Apache, Lakewood and Ocean Lakes first and all were booked for my target week. If I'm not happy with Pirate, I'll start earlier next year.

HI,

I've never camped at Pirate Land, however, my wife and I did ride through on bikes, while camping at Lakewood. The sites by the ocean are unshaded, but many have a covered roof over the picninc table. At least that will afford yu some shade. The park looked to be fairly well managed and not as big as Lakewood, or Ocean Lakes. Price wise, they are competitive.

Let us no aftr you've camped there!

Hi Everyone:

We camped at Pirateland for the first time in April, we loved it so much that we are going back next year. Have never camped on the ocean before - site was oceanfront premium - we had a great time; including the dog. He looked forward to the walks on the beach every morning. After May 1 they do not allow dogs on the beach. Very clean campground, lazy river is absolutely relaxing - my favorite!!! The store is well stocked and you can make reservations for shows out in town or golf reservations, etc. right at the store. Make sure you go to the Dixie Stampede dinner show ..... well worth it. We had a great time and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

I've been there every year since 1990. I always return there and have driven thru the others but know Piarateland so well it is my CG of choice. The pull-thru sites (Robbers Row) don't have the shelters that the back in sites do. All the beach front sites are 50 amp, W/E/S and cable TV. They've recently remodeled and air conditioned their bath houses. they have 2 pools - 1 inside and 1 outside and a hot tub inside. Nice store, snack bar, laundromat, mini golf, tennis and basketball. Be sure to bring your bikes but watch out for the golf carts. I'll be on Robbers Row the week of Aug. 10 - 17. My vote for the best show in town in the Carolina Opry.

I have stayed at Pirateland, Lakewood and Ocean Lakes. I think Ocean Lakes is the greatest of all. I think the advantages are Express Check-in(make reservations and know the site you are on and get your parking pass in the mail- then you drive through the gate and go staight to your site) golf cart rentals if you want any, both shaded and beach front sites, all sites are pull through and you have a drive between every row of campers, security, pools in and out door, playgrounds for children, basketball, shuffleboard, recreation center, church services, arcade. Another advantage is there is a traffic light at the campground for easy access. When you leave you do not have to fight traffic in Myrtle Beach to get out. You will at Pirate Land. I think the sites are much larger at Ocean Lake. They have a website and 800 number. When reservations are made you know the camp site right then, so print you a map. If they are booked today, they may not be tomorrow. Call around 8:00 AM when cancellations have been made. I sometimes call for a week but have always gotten in. You will not be sorry.

I agree with what's been said about Ocean Lakes. Phone hookups at every site, great security, easy access to the beach, two pools, an arcade, three snack bars, a large store, etc., combines to make it the best place on the strip!

Hello all,

My family and I just returned from a 4th of July week at Pirateland. To sum it up, I would have to say our experience was just plain bad. The highlights (or lowlights) of our week included:

1) Upon arrival, I had to wait 20 minutes at the check in desk while they jockeyed reservations between campsites for various families. I then pressed the issue and was allowed to check in.

2) My reservation for a golf cart, which I called twice about to make sure everything was in order, somehow got messed up. I ended up not having a golf cart for the week due to none being available. I even sat and waited in the golf cart office several mornings waiting for returns but never got one. The office opens at 8 am, there were folks ahead of me waiting since 6 am.

3) Speaking of golf carts, the rule is that you must have a valid drivers license to drive them. This rule is not enforced at all, many many young teens barreling around the campground in golf carts all day long. There was a little girl hit by a golf cart driven by a teen while riding her bike. Another golf cart ended up stolen and deposited in the lake one night.

4) One afternoon after coming back from the beach, my wife and I were attacked by fire ants while rinsing the kids off with the outside shower. We both ended up with big infected welts on our feet and ankles.

5) While walking by the bath house, I helped a woman on crutches into a golf cart. She told me that this was the 3rd day in a row that the womens room had no toilet paper.

I have to say that while waiting for a golf cart those mornings, there was a steady stream of people leaving several days early. There was also a steady stream of folks not happy at all about the campground. I am posting this message to let folks know of our experiences with Pirateland. I hope that anyone visiting there has better experiences than we had.
