Hi, We are going to Winston/Salem, NC for 3 days. The Fairgrounds are closed to camping that week as are the Tanglewood campgrounds.
We desperately need a campground within commuting distance to Winston/Salem for that weekend. Does anyone know of any campgrounds where we can stay, leave our motorhome safely during the day and return at night to sleep?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks,
Al

As W-S is my hometown, I hate that there is not much around here that would meet you needs.

Try Midway Campground, don't know much about it, it would be about :30 min to the west side of W-S
http://www.kiz.com/midway/

Also did a seach on this site for anything within 30 miles and came back with this...

Hope this helps....

Theres also Lake Myers RV resort (Mocksville) at exit 168 off I40, just a little closer than Midway. Never stayed there as we park in my daughters driveway in Mocksville. Real sorry Tanglewood closed, it was a pretty nice park with reasonable rates.
Good Luck

I was looking for a campground close to do some shakedown trips to when we got our camper, so I rode through Lake Myers to see if it was possibility. All I saw were permanent sites, and those were on the scary side to me, just run down and old. Needless to say I beat feet out of there and have not returned.

This in mind I would not recommend Lake Myers RV resort.

I live in High Point and work in Winston Salem. I would highly reccomend staying at Oak Hollow in High Point, Its only a 20-25 min drive, nice quiet CG on the lake and would be very safe to leave your MH, also no gate so you have 24 hour access in or out.

Midway Campground on I-40 just west of Winston Salem is the better one in the area. Clean and well managed. Stay away from Lake Myers Resort, too crowded with run down permanent sites, stayed there once on a new camper shakedown night- never again( read dump).

I agree with the above post Midway is much better than Lake Myers however I would still strongly recomend Oak Hollow Lake over it. Midway has very tight spaces some of which your awning would litterally hang over the road and on some of the "lake front" ones you have to cross the road to get to your assigned picnic table...your door opens onto the road.

Everyone has their own tastes in CG's but Midway was a huge disappointment for me, I am glad I was just driving thru and not camping.

hi, oak hollow lake campground in highpoint nc is owned by the city
recreation department. it is located off johnson street. it is a 25 to 30 min. drive to winston-salem. all sites are paved and have full hookups. one section has cable tv hook ups. the price is $18.00 for site with cable.$17.00 for site with no cable. they have 2 bath houses
and a very small swimming pool. most sites are hard to level your rig
on. hopes this helps.

I have never stayed at oak hollow lake, but I do know the surrounding area, knowing that and after looking at their web site I would say this might be your best option.
