We have reservations for Barefoot Landing in June. Please respond if you have ever stayed here. Is it really nice and do they have activities for kids? Also how is the traffic in and out of the campground. Any Advice would be appreciated.

I believe Barefoot Landing is next to the Ocean Creek Plantation...If this is the park that I'm thinking of, there might be better ones for your family (if you have younger children) in south myrtle beach...You might want to do a search on Myrtle Beach...you will find many comments about the ones in South MB...we like Lakewood, but there are several other really good ones there.

Barefoot landing (across the street from the campground) is a popular tourist place that is busy in the day with shoppers and busy during the evenings with adult type activities (House of Blues...etc)...No matter where you go on rt 17 you will be in heavy traffic.... especially from 5:00pm to 7:00pm as everybody there goes out to eat at one of the thousands of restaurents.... I should also note that there seems be be less traffic in South MB...

If you want to camp on the beach, don't go there. I have been camping at Myrtle Beach for about 20 years, and I prefer Myrtle Beach Travel Park or Ocean Lakes Campground. My wife and I are actually hitched up right now and heading to Ocean Lakes in the morning. I don't know the age of your kids, but if they are pre-teen I would recommend Myrtle Beach Travel park, it is more "family" and younger kids. If they are teenagers, go to Ocean Lakes. Also, if you call and they don't have any openings (which they probably won't), don't get discouraged, keep trying. After calling every day for about a week, I made reservations last month for Easter weekend, even though they have been booked for a long time. People call and cancel every day. Keep trying, and cancel your Barefoot reservations.

Just returned from Pirate Land Myrtle Beach. We had a great time, just far enough south of the strip. We attended Ripleys Aquarium which my family really enjoyed. My wife and daughter took a class at Huntington Beach State park south of Myrtle beach on shell collection. Are family went to two of the many miniture golf courses and enjoyed the Ocean. We enjoyed are stay at Pirate Land alot to do with the kids. Good luck

Ocean Lakes or Lakewood I would say are the two best Campgrounds in Myrtle Beach which offer lots to do for the kids. Both have websites and listing of their calendar of events. Ocean Lakes is a little bit more up to date but both are nice.

Hi EMS:

What were the average temperatures at Myrtle Beach last week when you were there? We camped at Pirateland last April and had beautiful weather in the low to mid 80's that week. I hear that time of year it can also be cool and not be swimming weather.
Please respond so I can get somewhat of an idea for reservations next year.
Thanks in advance,

We have been going to Myrtle beach in the spring for the last 11 years. The first 4 years we used to split the time between Barefoot RV and Pirateland. We now stay the whole time at Pirateland only. We have checked out the other campgrounds with a drive through and believe Pirateland to be the best for kids of all ages. Barefoot can put you right on the beach, 20 feet from high tide, but too much sand in the wind, you well be cleaning out the sand for years. The beach is a little nicer at barefoot and they also have a Lazy River, but not as big and as much to do for kids compared Pirateland. Barefoot Landing is across the street in walking distance and that is a plus. Checkout the amenities of both on line and you will choose Pirateland. Our grandchildren always make the trip with us each year and they prefer going to Myrtle Beach and staying at Pirateland compared to going to Disney World. The children always love going there and riding thier bikes on the paved streets and having the freedom to go to the arcade, store, ice cream store, general store, paddle boats, poking around and fishing the lakes and creeks, miniture golf, pools (indoor and out), lazy river, sports courts and the planned activities for kids. You can't go wrong at Pirateland!

We camped at the MB state park several weeks ago. Nice place to kick back - W&E hookups and a dumping station. Easy walk to the beach - only $17 a nite. One drawback - It is at the end of the airport runway, so you get to see some big planes real close (seems they have a 11PM-7AM curfew though). If you are camping at any of the south CG's, use the South bypass (544) instead of battling the Strand traffic. All the CG's will be a short way to the left (North)

We just got back from Ocean Lakes and had a great time. If you didn't want to leave the resort you would not have to. I had heard that the golf carts were a problem but I believe the management intends to change that. We saw several instances where kids were driving and the security folks promptly stopped the cart and confiscated it. Lots of folks walking around or bicycling. Exceptionally quiet at night. Staff is intent on customer service and the cleanest bathouse I have ever seen, cool enough to hang meat in but very clean.

We reserved for later in the year before we left. However if camping in hot season, avoid the sections right on the beach and look for a shaded spot. Some folks call the spaces at the ocean "The Sahara" in the summer.
