I too am not pleased with the stock power mirrors on the pre-1999 Ford F-250 trucks.
We are using the CIPA type mirror now and although they allow us to see the sides of the trailer and any vehicles behind us, I still don't feel secure during lane changing. I feel the glass area is too small.
I can't wait to own the newer Ford F-250 just to have the great mirror, but can't seem to get over the sticker shock. I thought the after market Power Vision electrically extended mirror would fit my requirements but checked their web-site and found that they are not available for pre-1999 Fords. Has anyone had any experince with after market mirrors other than the McKesh and CIPA.

My CIPA mirrors work great...look great, good sight line, no vibrations/shimmying in the wind. And a great bug catcher, too!
Seriously, the only thing I see as beneficial in my application (Chevrolet) is to add a 3" round convex or "spot" mirror to the lower outboard corner of the stock mirror. This helps greatly in the lane change maneuver.

Hope this helps,
Best regards.
John
