Heard a rumor that older bigfoot campers will not fit in chev trucks without modifications. Something to do with to wheel wells. I am looking at a 1988 8 ft camper and I have a 98 Z-71 shortbox. Anyone know if this is true. Any insight or comments would be appreciated.

Randrash:

I don't have any knowledge of this Bigfoot issue, but a simple test would be to measure the distance between your wheel wells and then measure the floor of the camper.

You may also want to measure the distance on the camper and your truck for: floor to cabover, floor to bedrail. You wouldn't want to sit the camper on the bedrails or have the cabover sit on the top of your cab. (I don't even what to think of the body work for that.)

Hope I haven't overstated the obvious.

Happy Trails!

I don't know about between the wheel wells, but I would definately check the tailgate width.

When I got my camper, I had all the truck measurements written down, and measured the camper to make sure it would fit.

I saw a post once were the guy had to cut into the shower area on the camper to make it fit his new truck.

good luck

The older Bigfoots were wider & won't fit between the wheel wells of most new trucks. My brother in law had one on a 93 Ford F250 & there was only about 1/8 inch clearance between the wheel wells. Mind you centering it was never a problem.

The bed in Chevy's taper from the front (cab) to tailgate about 1" (narrower). I have a 1993 3/4T and it was an issue when I was looking for an older camper 1977 to 1988, so much of an issue I bought a new camper. I'm not sure what years the bed did that about 1988 to 1999 I think, maybe they still do.
