We are picking up our new TT at the end of this week and are planning a week-long trip in early August. Before we jump into a week, we want to go for a quick weekend first, just to get the feel for what we may need or not need. So we would like to stay near the Great Adventure area. Can anyone recommend a nice family campground in the area. I was looking at Butterfly Campground, it seems like a good family place. We have 3 children (son 6, daughters 3 & 2) I would also like to hear where we DON'T want to go in that area. Thanks to everyone for the great info on this site.

We camped at Butterfly several years ago. It was nice but kind of small. We like to go to Timberland Lake Campground, off of 537, near Great Adventure. It is a bit pricy, but they do have a lot for kids. We were there from July 1-6. We like to go there for Columbus Day week-end but they were booked. We were also there on Fathers Day.

A big, huge DON'T vote for Timberland Lake. We were there last year - felt like something out of the movie Deliverance. Feral cats and kittens everywhere, junky unused campers all over. Complete nightmare.

Congrats on the new camper. Enjoy...and happy camping!!!

We once stayed at a place named Tip Tam in Jackson. It was small but it was right buy Great adventure. We also stayed at a place down a little more called i think Cedar Crest. It was definitley Cedar something. Sorry for not remembering the name but its Monday and my brain doesn't start working till Wendsday.

Wow, what a difference in opinion on Timberlake Campground!

Thanks for the input, but I think we decided to wait until our trip the first week in August because we have a Birthday Party to go to that weekend (in North Jersey) and my husband thinks it is just crazy to park the trailer Friday night at a campground and be out 1/2 the day on Saturday, then come home Sunday just for the sake of trying out the new camper (He is so practical ). I am just anxious to get out there once we get our trailer. We'll probably end up camping in our back yard a few nights as the kids are really excited too.

So thanks for the input. If anyone else has any input, please post your opinions because since we have season tickets to Six Flags Great Adventure, we will surely be looking to stay in that area another time this summer/fall).

Hello. Just a quick note about Timberland Lake Campground in Jackson New Jersey. We have stayed there 3 years in a row. We've never had a complaint. We enjoyed ourselves so much the first time that we keep going back. I have a toddler and an infant now. We stayed there two times when our toddler was 6 months old and 11 months old. I do remember seeing some kittens, but nothing that bothered us or became annoying. There is a pool and a lake for fishing and paddle boats. Big plus is that it is so close to Great Adventure. I also remember them having some musical entertainment that was really nice to listen to from the campsite (nothing too late). Country/mellow rock. A nightly hayride. I thought they were VERY family oriented!!! We had gone with some single friends and they weren't thrilled because they were looking for a little more night life. The campground security does like it quiet after a certain time. They make rounds. All in all I gave them 2 thumbs up. I'm sure it isn't the BEST of the BEST. But worth a stay close to Great Adventure. The kids will enjoy themselves for sure. Here is their website: www.timberlandlakecampground.com You can view the photos on their website and decide for yourself. They also have theme weekends which I thought were cute. Hope this helps a little. Best wishes with your new RV and have a safe and pleasant summer!!!
