RV Rescue Makeover Selects Winner
Ed and Barb Tarconish of Barnesville, Pennsylvania, have been chosen from more than 3,000 entries to participate in RV Rescue, an extreme RV makeover event. The two 47-year-old high school teachers and their 27-foot 1984 Winnebago Chieftain motorhome were chosen to be the subject of one of the most extensive RV makeovers ever attempted, and the only makeover show to be recorded from start to finish in front of a live audience. The entire event will take place in the middle of one of the largest RV rallies of the year — The Rally at Daytona Motor Speedway, April 7-10. Sponsored by Dometic Corporation, the three-day makeover will be recorded for airing on two segments of the RVtoday TV show in June 2006 on the Outdoor Life Network.

The Tarconishes are big Penn State fans, so along with short camping trips, they use their motorhome to create a variety of great family memories by visiting their daughter Emily, 19, at Penn State University and tailgating at weekend football games. With an RV makeover in the works, they're now looking forward to finding some great places to explore with longer RV trips. They also expect RV Rescue to help them better accommodate their elderly parents, creating a more comfortable environment that will enable the whole family to enjoy some wonderful times together.

The Rescue of the Tarconish motorhome also caps the remarkable story of Emily's recovery from a traumatic brain injury she suffered four years ago. Initially, when she awoke from a coma, she had full amnesia and couldn't talk, walk or swallow. However, after 34 days of intense rehab, she walked out of the hospital. After that, with great family support, she managed to return to her position on the cheerleading team and earn a USA Today scholarship for her writing skills. She is presently majoring in journalism, is on the Dean's list, and serves as a student counselor.

Ed and Barb's son Jake, 11, plays baseball and basketball and enjoys riding ATVs with his dad, who also uses the motorhome to go hunting and fishing with his buddies. Both Barb and Ed camped a lot when they were kids. With a rescued RV in their hands, they are looking forward to experiencing the great outdoors in a whole new way.

"We are glad to be bringing such a deserving family this RV Rescue. The decision was very difficult; there were many worthy entries," said Brad Sargent, Dometic vice president of marketing. "We're thrilled to be part of a family that comes together and uses the RV lifestyle to grow and to connect.

"Dometic is pleased that we can provide greater comfort and enjoyment to the Tarconish lifestyle with products that are core to RV enjoyment," said Sargent. "From what we've seen, we have a huge challenge on our hands to get this all done in the three days of The Rally, but then that's what makes for an entertaining event and TV show. We can't wait!"
